I still can't get my gradients as crisp as Dusty and most of my stuff seems to come out dirtier. And, as you can see from the Blue/Green BtB cover, they look rather - canned still.

Using Gradient overlays seems to do the trick for me a lot of the time, instead of gradient fills on a selection. Create a new layer, use the gradient fill tool on the toolbar as highlighted, and then play about with the blending modes.
