Many thanks for that - I'm inclined to buy the book just for the courtesy of Terry's reply.
Sometimes in our eagerness to assert our rights as readers we can lose sight of the fact that the author has the right to regard a book s/he has sweated over as a work in its own right, not just a 'part' of something.
