Thanks very much for your reply Kovid. I contacted Instapaper this week but have yet to hear a reply. In the meantime, I propose the following solution:

On the instapaper page, download the html file of your feed. This contains up to 2,000 entries. It makes a numbered list of the links. If these links are prefaced with "http://www.instapaper.com/text?u=http%3A%2F%2F" they will produce the text versions we want.

Is there some process that Calibre could perform on this HTML file to produce a .mobi with the "articles and sections" list and the full feed in this way?
