Women in Love was first published in 1920. After the row surrounding the appearance of
The Rainbow and the subsequent banning of that book in the UK, it was privately printed in New York by Thomas Seltzer. In 1922 this edition was also seized by the US authorities.
Women in Love is a sequel to
The Rainbow, although Lawrence originally conceived the two as a single novel.
