For that matter, this is probably good news for Sony/Nook users, since it might encourage them to adopt epub 3, which afaik, no e-readers support yet.

The FAQ quoted earlier only mentions "latest generation" Kindle devices, and apps. Which is, by omission, essentially a statement that the K3 and prior won't support it.
