That's just calibre starting without a device connected. I need the log with the device connected. The collection management is done by the jobs that are run when the device is connected.

No, the series information can only be set for books that have been processed into the database on the device. This means that you need send the book to the device and disconnect and let it process the book. Then, when you connect again, the series information will be set during the initial jobs.
