I contacted my local library service to ask if they had any plans to introduce an ebook service, and they said that they would like to but don't have funds at the moment. They recognised that it's a growing area of interest but feel it would have to be an addition to other services and can't do it yet.

It was encouraging but I think it will be a while before ebooks are available in many libraries.
