With all the somewhat more obscure stuff we have from Arthur Conan Doyle, I've been pretty surprised that this pair hadn't been posted by now. He considered The White Company to be his best work, and when it was first published (1891), it quickly became Britain's best selling book since Ivanhoe (1819).
