Does anyone know, or have an opinion, on how authoratative these books are? For example there are two biographies today on George Washington and Ben Franklin. I don't know much past the obvious about either of them and have no desire to do any in depth study of them, but I thought it might be useful to have a quick reference available if a question came up - e.g. a book in which the British won the war of independence .

It would be useful to have some idea about how accurate they might be but they don't seem to give any credentials for the authors.
