Does anyone know, or have an opinion, on how authoratative these books are? For example there are two biographies today on George Washington and Ben Franklin. I don't know much past the obvious about either of them and have no desire to do any in depth study of them, but I thought it might be useful to have a quick reference available if a question came up - e.g. a book in which the British won the war of independence

It would be useful to have some idea about how accurate they might be but they don't seem to give any credentials for the authors.
