Well,
Harry (Potter) does not seem to be utterly stupid.
Neither Ilien (Shawn Cormiers "Nomadin" trilogy) nor Max (Nick Spalding "The Cornerstone") are stupid.

I don't know about Random (D. Adams "Hitchikers Guide") though, alas I suspect her only to be strongheaded.
