had issues with my install of Calibre the other day which led to having to do a very thurough uninstall using Revo Uninstaller. Once it worked it's magic I re-installed the newest version of Calibre and it could again perform conversions as well as find my Kindle again.
Calibre's uninstaller did not resolve the issue which is why I used Revo. I think I might have had one or two aborted installs of Calibre in the past so a good scrubbing was probably needed anyway. Revo is free and really good, but as always be careful since you will also be removing Registry Keys...but it has never failed me in solving install/uninstall issues which result in an app acting weird or not at all.
