Thanks all!

I found out that Wordpad (.RTF) will treat the Shift+Enter as a single line feed as does Sigil. So, I can create the note in Wordpad and let Calibre add it to it's base an then convert it to whatever. The output of this arrangement looks fine in both EPUB (Nook) and MOBI (DXG).
