Probably for the same reason B&N won't ship Nooks or Amazon won't ship the Kindle Paperwhite to Canada.
ETA: Originally DH and I were going to order Glos and give our two ten-year-olds our old touches. The girls fell in love the the Kobo Mini, though, so I just ordered that for them today after seeing this thread. The status shows it isn't in the stores yet, but is available to ship.
