Sometimes there's a difference between a best-selling novel and a good one. The main difference is that a good novel also has to be written well.

But even a bestseller has to flow in a way that keeps the reader engaged. The prose doesn't always have to be good, but the narrative connected to the prose has to exert a gravitational pull on the reader that works in tandem with the plot.
