If you are dealing with Amazon, they will send your replacement before they get your return.

Peel it open and connect to the serial port,
as far as I know, that is the only way to get it into fastboot mode (via U-Boot commands).
Although you don't need to get it into fastboot mode - it is a "dual boot" device, you only need to boot the alternate (Diags) system.
