Terhune, Albert Payson: Lad: A Dog, v.1, 8 February 2009.

Albert Payson Terhune (1872–1942)
Lad: A Dog (1919)

The life of a collie dog, whose character traits – bravery, chivalry, intelligence – contrast with many of the humans he encounters.
The author has based many of the stories on his own dog’s life.

I have added a cover picture of the author and the original ‘Lad’, also an illustration of the dog’s grave. The source was a scanned PDF at The Internet Archive.

People interested in dogs and literature may also care to know about Doglit-H, a listserv dedicated to the topic. See: http://www.math.ttu.edu/~wlewis/DogLit.html
