Apparently, Amazon isn't the only one doing this.
From an article on Kim Kommando re the IPhone
"New technology helps owners of expensive gadgets to get them back after they are lost or stolen. The Find My iPhone feature from Apple, which declined to comment for this story,
enables users to determine the phone's location and erase the data on it, among other things."
I guess the difference here is that it clearly states 'users' can erase data.

As quickly as technology is moving, it doesn't seem a stretch to think more and more companies will be able to remotely access your electronic device.
Its a part of 'progress'.
