What would be a good idea for Sony is to keep some referbed units handy. You send yours in, they look at it, confirm it's broke, send you a refurbed unit, fix yours, and put it in the refurbed pile.
And don't forget to remove any books you have on it that you don't want Sony knowing you have on the unit.
