I'm the exact opposite. If it's a novel, I want to borrow it. If it's a reference book, I want to own it. It doesn't even matter if it's a novel that I'll reread or a reference book that I'll never touch. I suppose that we all have our own fixations in life.

It does have some positive outcomes though. I don't need many reference books while I chew through a lot of novels because of the entertainment factor. This means that my collection of stuff (may that be digital or physical) is relatively small. Small collections are easier to maintain. That leaves more time to enjoy other things in life.

But that's just my philosophy. Understandably, the philosophy of others will differ.
