It may be possible to use the power button. After the screensaver kicks in, press the power button again. Now the menu bar should come back. It should be possible to program this behaviour - recognising when the kindle has come back from screensaver mode. The doodling app - "Draw" uses this mechanism to quit. (It also uses a double touch to erase the screen!)
