George Washington (February 22, 1732 – December 14, 1799) was a central, critical figure in the founding of the United States. He is commonly considered the father of the U.S. He led the Continental Army to victory over the Kingdom of Great Britain in the American Revolutionary War (1775–1783), and in 1789 was elected the first President.[3] He served two four-year terms from 1789 to 1797, winning reelection in 1792.
