Either the Kindle or the Sony should meet your needs. You can go to a store to see a Sony if you want, and the Kindle has a 30-day return policy. Amazon's service (usually they just send you a new one) and support is outstanding. Using the device primarily when traveling you may want to use the vendor's ebook store exclusively, and in this area Amazon has the best selection, convenience, and price. If you want to shop in multiple ebook stores, then the Sony and Kindle are more evenly matched.
