It really depends on the original file and how much reformatting you are willing/able to do. Most academic books can be read, as they come, on the DR800 but you run into problems with large format books and journal articles, particularly if they are set up as two columns. I use a DR800 for text heavy academic reading and it's mostly fine. At the moment I have to reflow a few things and if I do that really screws up diagrams and the like. Zooming should be better than reflowing for this type of thing.

I think it's about the best thing available at the moment for certain types of academic reading. If I was doing something with lots of formulæ I would probably think again because of the reflowing issues that they cause.
