No, it's not especially simple. I broke a wacom penabled stylus for another reader and pulled it apart completely. It is surprisingly complicated rocket science in there. Multiple layers of washers, o-rings, hair-fine coils, etc.

If the LCD devices you're looking at don't say "Penabled" then it is not using a compatible stylus. Any old, cheap plastic stick won't do for the edge's eReader screen. While it would work on the LCD side, it seems to me to be less convenient to keep track of two different stylii for each screen.
