Watts is quite good at writing about the quiet moments in conversations. He captures a mood and paints emotions extremely well. Dixie is right though, if you don't like hard SF, graphic violence, or sexual deviancy then steer clear. Otherwise the Rifters trilogy was top-shelf (personally disappointed by how the head-cheese essentially dropped out of the story after the first book). Happen to be reading Blindsight right now.
