My wife edits highly technical books and journals and gets $3-4 a page.
She often has to check for consistency in vocabulary between authors and to keep their voice while doing so.
Admittedly she is not changing content, so much as looking for inconsistencies and inaccuracies (as well as proper format and grammar), but I suspect that what she does is close to what needs to be done for the average book going out to a reader.
