"dd" is a Unix (and its descendents, like Linux & Android) command which allows you to directly copy disc sectors so you can make a true clone of a disc (or a portion of the disc). This allows you to get at hidden sections of the disc, such as where Android keeps its system files. It's not a simple operation, though.
