Detective novels, mystery favorites?

A friend has just joined the MobileRead forums, and his favorite genre is detective novels by male American Authors. My own fav is just detective novels by any country's authors, male or female.

I know it's been done in the past, but there are new writers and new ideas. To help my friend in his search for new material, would you please jot down a few of your favorite authors for him?

Mine are:
John Sanford ("Prey" series, "Kidd" series, and "Virgil Flowers" series"
Lee Child ("Reacher" series)
Robert Parker ("Spencer" series)
James Lee Burke ("Dave Robecheau" series)
Jeffery Deaver ("Lincoln Rhyme" series)
