Does the reader boot correctly with the card removed? BTW, you can use an external card reader or some other device (e.g. digital camera) to read the card.
Otherwise, try this:
1) press reset
2) connect to PC with USB cable
3) turn on
If you get to the "USB connected" screen, copy everything off the internal memory and clear it. Running a disk check won't hurt too.
