Yes, some pdf's can be difficult to read but that could be the coding of the pdf (?).
In terms of the dead pixel, WHSmith exchanged it without any questions.
I recommend anyone going to a store to purchase one OPEN THE BOX, TURN THE LIGHT ON (there will be charge) AND CHECK FOR BRIGHT SPOTS.
Otherwise, if you see a bright pixel exchange it ASAP as they may cotton on if it's common and say you need more than one to exchange.
