FWIW, I have the basic B&N nook cover (gray Industriell?) - but not the easel version. Yet it still came with a magnet embedded in the cover (serves no functional purpose on a non-easel design cover). Like others who don't like the idea of unnecessary magnets in hand, I didn't relish it's being there.
SOLUTION: It was actually very easy to (gently) separate the bottom edge seam of the cover seam (the two layers of the front cover are only glued together, not sewn), shimmy out the magnet from inside the two layer, and then re-close the cover seam, now without the magnet. BTW, I didn't even need to add fresh glue since the existing glue was still self-sticky enough - probably just a form of contact glue).
In short, it's a great cover - very functional/ergonomic, protects without being obnoxious or flashy, but now... without that pesky magnet.
