I'm still not a 100% fanatic of Dan Brown.
His clunky prose still irks the hell out of me (Go read the excerpt) and I want to throw my Kindle half the time.
But, when he is good - he's good. And when he's bad...he's bloody terrible. But, he does do a decent job of keeping the tension up. I've always been a fan of his 2 page chapters that end on sort-of cliffhangers to make you want to turn the next page.
I remember the first time I read Angels and Demons. I was definitely younger, but the frustration of not 'knowing' what happened next made for a crappy end of commute sometimes. But I actually found myself looking forward to the next day's commute, just to see what the hell happened
