Thank you. I have followed the advice at the link you provided. I'm running Ubuntu 10.04. The modification to the .rules file succeeded in getting Ubuntu to recognize the Kindle as a USB device. However, I have not been successful in getting Calibre to recognize the Kindle. I will do manual file moves for now. It sounds, from the link you provided, like when I update to the current version of Ubuntu it should work.
