You still have not posted the contents of the media.xml file (only the first line which is not much use). The suspicion is the media.xml file ahs got corrupted somehow, and seeing its contents might help figure out how. In the worst case it can be deleted and then it will be rebuilt when the Sony is disconnected from the USB>

The latest release of Calibre is working fine for other people, so we need some help in trying to figure out why you are having a problem.
