I was talking about screen size, of course.
For an A4 document with typical margins 12" is just right, if the document has been cropped (by the device) to fit text width to screen width.
(BTW, with a 9" screen and cropping you *can* read an A4, if the text is not too small; but reading academic papers without zooming is excluded.)
