I've got one like that for my BlackBerry -- usually those plugs just won't charge the Reader. The reason (as nearly as we can tell) is that these plugs usually put out the minimum, standard USB voltage/current, but the Reader needs something closer to the upper end of the standard. A computer can make that adjustment, but the plugs aren't that "smart."

What the Reader comes with is a plain USB cable with a standard USB plug on one end and a mini USB plug on the other end (that's the one that connects to the Reader, if it needs to be specified ), any such cable will work with the Reader, so long as it follows the USB standard properly.

Oh, and I also recommend the PSP charger approach -- if it makes you feel better about it, the Sony folks were using PSP chargers for the Readers they had at their Blogger's Day event two years ago.
