If, for example, Amazon had chosen not to allow the installation of any competing reader apps, there would have been no competition problem, you would just categorise the device as not-open instead.

The nook is a dedicated B&N device, sold for the primary purpose of buying and reading content from B&N's store.
When I say that it could fall foul of anti-competition laws, I'm thinking of things like Microsoft being fined for bundling Internet Explorer with Windows, which was deemed to be unfair to other browser suppliers.
