Theodor Mügge wurde am 8. November 1806 in Berlin geboren; er starb am 18. Februar 1861 in Berlin.

Nach dem frühen Tod des Vaters begann er eine Ausbildung zum Kaufmann. Seine Offizierslaufbahn brach er vorzeitig ab und begann ein Studium in den Fächern Geschichte, Philosophie und Naturwissenschaften.

Mügge war 1848 an der Gründung der Nationalzeitung beteiligt. Seine zahlreichen Reisen hat er in seinen Erzählungen geschildert.
