This one is tricky. Perhaps:
- Decide on the orientation based on the pre-cropped dimensions.
- If the original is at or smaller than the screen dimensions, don't crop.
- The amount of vertical and horizontal cropping should be proportional to the aspect ratio of the screen. This may prevent what happened in the example. I hate math so I'll defer the calculations to someone else hopefully...
