I use the sleep mode for the reason that BOb mentioned. My Reader travels in my purse every day so the risk of a button being pressed is high even though I do my best to minimize the amount of pressure exerted on the device.
Even when I'm at home and there's no potential for unexpected button pushing, I still toggle the power switch. I guess it's a habit, like turning out the lights when I leave a room.
