Nook would be better for PDFs. (than the PRS-300, though the 600 is the best with them of the three... cropped, though, probably on par with nook)

You don't need software for the nook.

I don't know about the tagging/collections with the nook.

And I believe it can do bookmarks well enough.

If the 600 isn't what you're looking for, and the light doesn't help, I'd say get the nook!
