They're already cheap enough nobody is making any (significant) money.
Looking at the recent Black Friday sales it looks like 2013 prices will run 50inchers from $499 and we'll be seeing 65inchers at $1000.
Also, "big" is getting redefined at 80-plus inches. 50-72 inches is merely moderate size in the new market.

Anything under 50in is now officially small.

I expect we're going to see some pretty big players just give up on HDTVs.
(Sony is everybody's biggest suspect.)
