There's another reason: Data longevity. Flash memory has only so many write cycles it can withstand, and sooner or later, it will fail. HDDs are made for being rewritten practically infinitely. Flash drives are fine for their intended purpose, sneaker-net data transfer, but for backup purposes, I wouldn't rely on them.
