Here's what I would do: sample the 5-star and 1-star reviews on Amazon, then download a sample and read that.
If you find it to your liking, you should buy it.
I have the other two (having paid full price), but I haven't gotten around to reading them yet.

Thanks! I went ahead and bought all three. Some of the reviews at Amazon are quite entertaining; there's a two-star review on the first book titled "
17th century Scooby Doo", which really makes me want to read it now
