You have to modify the eprom in order to see it as a WAP hotspot, at least on Verizon and the Droid X
I did this with my Droid X and can connect, BUT you use at your own risk and you are VERY MUCH breaking the terms of service. The apps don't really work as it creates an ad-ahoc connection, so you have to use the 3G Hotspot stuff on the DroidX
Will they catch you....doubt it. I use it when I'm on the road to download a book to my nook color, and that's about it, the data being used is minuscule.
