I had a combo anit-glare/screen protector on my original iPad; it worked well, though I didn't much like what it did to the appearance of the screen. My wife has a screen protector on her new iPad, but I didn't bother putting one on mine, and I've noticed that hers is much more prone to picking up fingerprints than mine is. They both clean up well with a microfibre cloth, but mine needs it far less frequently.
