That's so funny. I'm an Australian and I assumed that I was always reading double-quoted dialog, but I just went through my books and I notice that I have a mixture of both.

The strange thing is I've never noticed the difference. My eyes can obviously detect quoted dialog without noticing the quotes themselves.

For myself, I've always tended to use double-quoted dialog if I'm writing/typing anything.
