Or you can demand basic ethics of the companies you deal with.
Like asking before they use your data in new ways.
The entire point is just because someone may look at some of your data, it doesn't mean companies need to have carte blanch to use the data they have from you as they wish.
You certainly COULD opt in to Amazon storing your data and opt out them them doing anything BUT storing it, suggesting anything else is bluntly disingenuous and basically saying "well you can use this basic feature, but you wave your rights just because you want to use something you bought the device for". It's bad ethics, period - it's no different from Facebook's stunts.
