I assume he made the template changes in the Calibre Program files copy
You need to copy that folder
C:\Program Files\Calibre2\
resources\catalog
to
the Calibre configuration folder (
preferences: Miscellaneous: Open Configuration (button)
If you don't, the change goes bye-bye the next update
Much of Calibre will priority use the versions found in the config folder
