Network traffic affects Transfer Timing (and undesired file buffering).
Calibre is a 2 part Database: 1) The Metadata. 2) The file storage.
They need to happen in Lockstep (not a network supported protocol).

Up until now, things happened fast enough that you have been getting away with using a NAS.

Defiantly an UNOFFICIAL Idea If your NAS and Driver has write cache settings: Disable them for the Library folder. (Windows has these for removable drives. They may appear as: Performance (=cached) and Quick Removal ( =Cache OFF) which requires all files to be written before returning the cursor to you: Slower, but Lots safer for your data.)
